Dr. James R. "Jim" Sowell
Jim is an astronomer at Georgia Tech, where he is the Director of the Campus Observatory. In addition to teaching and research, he performs public outreach and education, including Public Nights, presentations at schools, workshops for teachers, and distance-learning video conferences across the globe.

Dr. Sowell earned a B.S. and M.S. from Vanderbilt University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He came to Georgia Tech in 1989. He teaches three astronomy courses and directs students in research. Jim was honored with an Undergraduate Educator Award in 2009.
